Are reservations required?
No, reservations are not required but we do highly suggest making one because of how busy we get. You can make a reservation by clicking book now here on our site, or give us a call!
Is there an age limit?
Participants under the age of 18 will require a parent/guardian signature. Parents can make the reservation online for the minor and will be prompted through the waiver in an email that is sent immediately after booking. You can also stop in for a paper waiver as well. No child under 16 can paddle alone without supervision. If you have a young child you’d like to bring with you either in a tandem kayak, or small enough to sit between your legs in a single kayak, that is fine, there is no age limit.
Are there pickup and drop off points?
No. You will launch and return at our site. The section of the Ashtabula River we are located on/have access to has a very light current, it is flat water paddling so there is no issue paddling up the river at all.
Where can I paddle from your launch?
We are so lucky to have access to one of the most diverse paddling areas! When you launch from our site, you’ll head out onto the Ashtabula River. The section of the river we have access to barely has a current, so you can easily paddle up the river (about 2 miles). If you chose to head down river though, you’ll head out into the Ashtabula Harbor, which is full of sights to see. The lighthouse, multiple sandbars, and bits of industry that still thrive in this town. You may see ships docked along the slips, bald eagles, osprey and even mink swimming by from time to time! There’s about a mile of breakwall East and West you can paddle behind, you do not have to go on the open lake.
What are your hours?
Please remember that we are seasonal and weather dependent. Our hours Memorial Day - Labor Day are consistent, but any time before or after please check our website or you can call/text to confirm. Please also take note that not only rain/storms will affect our hours, but wind too!
Cancellation Policies?
For any non-motorized activity :
>24 hours - full refund or store credit
<24 hours - store credit
*Cancellations due to weather are ONLY up to Harbor Yak. If a customer attempts to cancel due to weather, there will be no refund and no reschedule. This is because of the extreme variability hour by hour. We watch the radar daily and will make decisions day of.
*Weather - Because of the extreme variability of weather, any cancellations regarding such are solely made by Harbor Yak. We will contact you day of your reservation- up to two hours before rental and either provide a refund or store credit.
*No call/no shows will not be refunded
For any boat rental or boat tour :
>3 days notice - customer can choose refund or store credit
<3 days notice - store credit only (to be used same season)
*Weather - Because of the extreme variability of weather, any cancellations regarding such are solely made by Harbor Yak. We will contact you day of your reservation- up to two hours before rental and either provide a refund or store credit.
*No call/no shows will not be refunded
